Yadkinville Board of Commissioners held its first meeting of the year on Jan. 7. The board received a report that the town would received over $50,000 from ABC Board earnings from 2012.
The Yadkinville Board of Commissioners met for their first meeting of the year on Jan. 7.
The board received a report from Mark Headen, Yadkinville ABC Board appointee, that the town would receive $50,627 from ABC store sales in 2012.
Headen reported to the board that the Triad Municipal Alcohol Beverage Control took in $3 million this year to be dispersed in Forsyth County. Of that $3 million, Yadkinville will see more than $50,000.
According to a report provided by Headen the amount of revenue provided by the ABC board since the Yadkinville store opened in November 2007 has steadily grown.
In 2008 the town received $19, 669, in 2009 it received $32, 551, in 2010 it took in $34,410 and in 2011 a total of $39,246 leaving 2012 a record year.
Mayor Hubert Gregory acknowledged what an asset this money would be to the town but turned to Yadkinville Police Chief Tim Parks to ask whether he has noticed an increase in alcohol related crimes since the ABC store opened in Yadkinville. Chief Parks replied that he had not seen an increase and later noted that the number of alcohol related crimes has not grown nor decreased since the opening of the store.
Other points of interest from the town hall meeting:
-Yadkin County Schools has offered to include the town park in the school system’s certificate of liability insurance and in return the school asks that the park be available for access from the various schools in the area. Mayor Pro-Tem Eddie Norman urged the board not to make a vote yet until the town’s insurance agent could review the insurance policy and advise the town. Town Manager Christopher Ong agreed to discuss the matter with the town’s agent and report back to the board at their next meeting.
-The board voted to award a bid for the repair of windows at the Yadkin County Chamber of Commerce offices. The building is owned by the town and leased to the chamber. Initially Mayor Pro-Tem Eddie Norman made a motion to award the bid to Wishon Carter but after receiving counsel from Public Works Director Perry Williams, Norman retracted his motion and instead entertained a motion to award the bid to Stillwater Homes LLC. He also asked that the board include an amendment that would ask the chamber to cost share as much as they were willing to provide on the project. The board passed the motion unanimously.
-Town Manager Christopher Ong asked that the board approve the establishment of a Yadkinville Appearance Committee that would be composed of Brenda Brown and John Willingham as board heads in two year terms and various members from the Yadkinville Community Park committee. Mayor Pro-Tem Eddie Norman voiced his concern that many of the people on the park committee were not residents of Yadkinville and that the board would like to see a list with more taxpayers living in the city limits on this board before they vote to establish it. Ong agreed to revisit the list and recruit more Yadkinville residents and report back to the board at the next meeting.
