The following students are the recipients of the Albert and Jessie D. Martin Scholarship:
Samantha Nichole Couch, a 2012 graduate of Starmount High School, is the granddaughter of Patricia Gryder. She plans to attend Appalachian State University and major in history and secondary education.
Kayla Shantee Graham, the daughter of Vance and Melissa Graham, is a 2012 graduate of Starmount High School. She plans to attend Western Carolina University and major in English.
Brinsley Morgan Stewart, a 2012 graduate of Starmount High School, is the daughter of Timothy and Marty Stewart. She plans to attend Catawba College and major in Spanish and mathematics education.
Kara Michelle Wagoner, the daughter of Billy and Marlene Wagoner, is a 2012 graduate of Starmount High School. She plans to attend Surry Community College and major in elementary education.
Lindsey Marie Williams is a 2012 graduate of Forbush High School. Williams is the daughter of Mickey and Lisa Williams. She plans to attend Appalachian State University and major in elementary education.
The Martin Scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship that is renewable each year for four years. It was established in 1989 by Jay Martin to commemorate the distinguished service of his father and mother, Albert and Jessie D. Martin. Seventy-nine Starmount and Forbush High School students have received a Martin Scholarship since it was established.
