Austin Towner, the son of Deann and Keith Towner of East Bend, has been selected to represent Yadkin County at Governor’s School this summer.
The Governor’s School of North Carolina is a longstanding summer residential program offered to rising seniors who display exemplary academic ability and performance. A student is nominated by his or her school, chosen by the local Board of Education, and then chosen by the North Carolina State Board of Education. Austin will be attending Governor’s School West, located on Salem College campus in Winston-Salem.
His academic focus will be mathematics. While in high school at Yadkin Early College, Austin has made perfect scores on his Algebra I and Algebra II state end of course exams. He has successfully combined his high school and college classes and has attained a weighted grade point average of 4.5. Austin is an exemplary model student fully embracing his academic opportunities and instilling the ideals of lifelong learning.
