A house on 309 East End Boulevard was destroyed after a Sunday fire.
Little remains of the inner portion of the house.
Part of the roof is missing over the right side of the house.
Items from the burned house were removed and left on the front yard.
Police are withholding the name of a woman killed in a fire-related death that occurred Sunday at 309 East End Blvd., pending further investigation.
The woman’s husband was also injured, according to people who lived nearby.
The fire was first reported Sunday evening. Neighbors said the fire started around 2 p.m., and fire crews were still present after 8 p.m.
Yadkin County Fire Marshal Eddie Weatherman said Arlington, Boonville, West Yadkin and Yadkinville fire departments responded to the blaze.
Jonesville Police Chief Roger Reece said that a structure fire involving a death had occurred and that a death investigation was in process. He described the investigation as standard protocol for any death but was unable to give more specific details. In a short press release, Reece said the State Bureau of Investigation would be assisting in the case, but other details were not available for release at this time. He said more information would be released later date but gave no indication when that would be.
According to the North Carolina SBI website, involvement in a case “is at the request of the local department that maintains original jurisdiction over the case.”
Neighbors said the woman’s husband was present at the time of the fire and received severe burns on his hand. One woman described them as something a burn unit would need to treat.
Photographs taken of the scene show a mattress burned almost completely, with only springs and a slight covering left from the fire. Residents of the area said that police were seen searching the car in the house’s driveway following the fire.
