A murder was solves in downtown Yadkinville on Oct. 6.
The Yadkinville Downtown Business Association held its second Dinner and Mystery event at Allison Oaks on Main St. in Yadkinville to a crowd of 65, a slight dip from their audience of 72 in February.
The play titled The Playboy Murder was written by Lisa Reavis Drum and performed by Cindy Austin, Lisa Drum, Jim Drum, John Hutchens, Wayne Matthews, Becky McCarron, Tony McCarson, Trish Todd and Bobby Todd.
The event brought in a profit of $975 for the DBA, allowing the organization to pay off its debt for the courthouse project. The DBA also donated gift baskets that were awarded to two the two audience members who guessed the correct killer.
Trish Todd’s character, Agatha Crabbit, was the guilty party. Crabbit was the victim’s longtime housekeeper and had a dirty little horse race gambling addiction. When her boss decided to fire her for stealing and feeding him horse meat she decided to make him disappear.
Wayne Matthews provided the surprise for the night. He kept his participation in the play a secret from everyone except the other players. It was his first stage performance.
Matthews wasn’t the only new starlet on the stage, however. Cindy Austin wowed the crowd with her ingenue performance as Trixie Blue, the victim’s latest marketing intern with some questionable morals.
Brenda Brown, DBA treasurer, said that the event was another huge success. She says that the DBA hopes to continue the event next year and make it a yearly occurrence.
Brown said that the DBA would like to thank Jean and Pam Renegar at Allison Oaks for hosting the event again, Lisa Reavis Drum for writing the play, Southern Bride for providing the costumes and Regal Catering for providing food for the event.
