The Yadkin County Board of Education met for its first morning meeting on Sept. 10 at 9:30 a.m. at Forbush Elementary School.

David Nance from Yadtel was present at the meeting to make a presentation to board members to encourage them to sign off on allowing Yadtel to broadcast Yadkin County Schools sporting events and other special events at the school such as graduations and awards ceremonies.

Nance shared that several surrounding counties in the Yadkin Valley were participating with broadcasts and that Yadtel has received positive feedback from those school systems.

Nance said that the games would be filmed on Friday nights and would be aired and streamed online by Wednesday the following week. Nance also said that they could film high school graduations and provide the school with low cost DVDs that the school could sell for profit.

The board members did not take action on this item.

Other actions at the Sept. 10 meeting:

• The board gave permission for the high schools to schedule graduation at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston for Forbush High School and Peace Haven Baptist Church for Starmount High School for the 2013 graduation. The schools are allowed to start working with these locations to schedule a date.

• Superintendant Dr. Stewart Hobbs informed the board and audience that there will be a meeting set soon to start working on a schedule for the 2013-2014 school year, a task he says will be difficult because of legislature changes in days/hours students must attend. A date is not yet set for this meeting.

• The board postponed a decision on Internet policy forms for students who need to use Internet connection to complete class work. The board will address the issue at its October meeting.

• Yadkin Early College student representative Milca Jarquin announced that the early college students are planning a trip to Carowinds as an award for receiving the highest English scores in the county and that the school is also planning a fall festival.

The next Board of Education meeting will take place Oct. 1 at 9:30 a.m. at Forbush Middle School.
