YADKINVILLE - As recent Starmount graduate Austin Macemore continues his second bout with cancer, the community will lend a helping hand.
The Yadkinville United Methodist Church will be hosting a 5K fundraiser next weekend to raise money for Macemore and his family during his fight.
The “Race More for Macemore” 5K will be held January 26 at Yadkinville United Methodist Church on Hemlock Avenue in Yadkinville with all proceeds going to Austin and his family. The race will begin at 10 a.m. with an award ceremony scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m.
The price of the event is $25 for early registration (ending January 21) and $30 on the race day (ending at 8:30 a.m.), with students (3rd-8th grade) registering for just $15. Early registration guarantees a T-shirt and goodie bag.
Race packets can be picked up at the church on January 25 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. or on race day from 7:30-9 a.m.

Austin, a 2012 graduate of Starmount, is the son of Teena and Wayne Macemore of Yadkin County. Austin was a star wrestler and soccer player for the Rams in high school.
Starmount head coach Dale Draughn and the soccer team are trying to help “do their part for Austin.”
“Austin’s cancer came back last year and he’s still battling. In November, the doctors found a couple spots on his lungs. He’s taking medication to control it,” Draughn said. “We’re just trying to raise money for his family to help pay for medical expenses and whatever else he needs.”
Starmount is selling “Team Austin” T-shirts for $10 with a cross and the burgundy and ivory ribbon, which symbolizes head and neck cancer awareness.
“Fundraising is going pretty good,” Draughn said. “We’re just trying to do our part and give back to Austin what he gave to us.”
Starmount made $200 for the Macemores at the Rams’ last home basketball game in December.
A Facebook page - “Austin and Friends”- has been set up where friends can post photos with Austin and get updates on his condition. As of publication, the group has over 1,500 ‘likes’.
