The Enon Boys performed live gospel music for the Music in the Park event. There are two more performances left in this year’s series. Bluegrass band Porch Dog Revival will perform Sept. 8 and Oldies and current hits cover band Too Much Sylvia will perform on Sept. 21.

The Yadkin Civitan Group teamed up with the Yadkinville Police Department’s Cops Care Program on Aug. 25.
Each year the Cops Care Program holds multiple fellowship events for its participants and the Yadkin Civitan Group chose to sponsor an event to coincide with its summer Music in the Park activities.
The Civitan Club always sponsors a cookout or some kind of event for the Cops Care Program and this year they asked me what I thought about having the participants come down to the park and enjoy the Music in the Park event too,” said Police Chief Tim Parks. “I told them that I thought that was great.”
The Cops Care Program was started by the Yadkinville Police Department in 2008. Officers involved in the program go out and sign up Yadkinville residents over the age of 65. Officers regularly check on these citizens during bad weather and are available to them for things that may not fall under the umbrella of the police department.
“We are very fortunate to have the Cops Care Program,” said Ruth Shermer, a program participant. “They come to our houses and we get to know the police force. They always check on us and if they don’t see us out and about they come by. We can call them anytime we want to and it’s a wonderful thing to know that they’re there looking out for us.
“I am elderly and live by myself and I need somebody to look after me and they make me feel safe and secure and that’s important,” Shermer continued.
Each year the department hosts two events to allow the Cops Care Program participants to get out in the community and have a meal and socialize. The fall event is usually a cookout and at Christmas the program hosts a luncheon where participants are given Christmas goody bags.
“We have these events just so everyone can get together and have some fellowship,” Parks said.
Participants that came out to the Music in the Park event were treated to sandwiches from Arby’s and homemade ice cream courtesy of the Yadkin Civitan Group.
“All of the events have been fantastic,” Shermer said. “At Christmas they give us goody bags and serve us a meal and entertain us.”
We had a good time, we fed them first and then they moved on down to the stage to enjoy the music.
Homer Creed is a regular at the Music in the Park events. He has attended every performance this summer.
“I think this park is a wonderful thing,” said Creed. “The music is great and we come to all of them. We particularly enjoy the gospel performances but we attend the others and they’re great too. I think this is a great thing for this town and this county.”
Creed said that he thinks that The Enon Boys Aug. 25 performance was the best he’s seen to date.
“It’s the biggest crowd that I’ve seen so far,” Creed said. “The Enon Boys are about my favorite performers I have seen so far.”
The Music in the Park events will continue through September. On Sept. 8, bluegrass band Porch Dog Revival will perform and on Sept. 21 oldies and current hits cover band Too Much Sylvia will perform. Performances are at the Yadkinville Community Park and begin at 6 p.m. The event is free to the public.
The Yadkin Civitan Group will be hosting a raffle drawing for a Stoeger 410 Double Barrel Shotgun, 5 Case XX knives and 4 silver dollars. One raffle ticket will enter you to win any one of the three prizes. Tickets are $10 each and the drawing will be held during the last Music in the Park event on Sept. 21.
