The Yadkin County 5D Reservoir Recreation Area project has been awarded a matching grant of $500,000 from the Parks and Recreation Authority.
This grant will require the county to match it with an additional $500,000. Negotiations with grant officials and the county will begin soon to assure that all areas of the park that the county has planned will comply with the requirements of the grant.
Once the county has negotiated all of the details of the grant with grant officials the grant will be presented to the Yadkin County Board of Commissioners to vote on.
Yadkin County is one of seven local governments to be awarded the grant and was the largest funded project amongst the seven.
County commissioners say that think this is a positive direction for Yadkin County. With the development of the park the commissioners hope to see an increase in tourism in the area thereby increasing sales tax dollars returning to the county; an issue the county has been struggling with the last few years.
The 5D Park will feature fishing decks, a playground, walking and hiking trails, biking trails, horse trails, boating and canoeing. The second phase of the park will be focused on a campground area with RV site hook ups and tent sites.
Construction for phase one of the 5D Park is slated for Spring 2013 with a goal end date of late 2014.
