EAST BEND - The unbeaten Falcons have risen to the top spot.
Boasting a 8-0-1 record on the year, Forbush claimed Eurosports’ No. 1 slot in the latest 2A state rankings, edging Cuthbertson and Salisbury.
After topping Yadkin County rival Starmount 4-3 on Aug. 27 to open Mountain Valley Conference play, the Falcons have been dominant, cruising to four-straight wins. In those games, Forbush has outscored its opponents 21-1.
The Falcons recorded three-straight shutouts, blanking West Wilkes (6-0), North Wilkes (8-0) and Wilkes Central (3-0) in succession. West Forsyth finally broke through for a goal in a non-conference showdown, but Forbush breezed to a 4-1 win for its eighth-straight victory.
The conference-leading Falcons return to action this week with two MVAC games at East Wilkes on Tuesday before hosting 9-1 (4-0) Ashe County in a marquee matchup for conference supremacy.
