Yadkin County voters turned out in record numbers to vote in the general election this year. 16,844 voters turned out to the polls on Nov. 6 for a voter turnout of nearly 70 percent.
National, Congressional Races
In the presidential race between Barack Obama, Mitt Romney and Gary Johnson, Yadkin County voted in favor of Republican Romney by 74.83 percent, with Democrat Obama bringing in 23.52 percent of the vote and Libertarian Johnson bringing in 1.37 percent of the vote. The state voted in favor of Romney with 50.46 percent.
In the race between Democrat Elisabeth Motsinger and Republican Virginia Foxx for the US House of Representatives in District 5, Foxx pulled ahead in Yadkin County with 72.76 percent of the vote compared to the state with Foxx winning 57.57 percent of the vote.
In the race between Democrat William Stinson and Republican Mark Hollo for NC House of Representatives District 73 shows Hollo winning Yadkin County by 69.77 percent, compared to the state showing Hollo winning 71.42 percent of the vote.
State Races
The NC State Senate District 31 race between Democrat Delmas Parker and Republican Peter Brunstetter showed Yadkin County voting in favor of Brunstetter by 75.58 percent. The state shows Brunstetter winning by 69.02 percent.
In the race for the North Carolina Governor between Democrat Walter Dalton, Republican Pat McCrory and Libertarian Barbara Howe Yadkin County voted McCrory by a 78.02 percentage compared to the state with McCrory winning by 54.68 percent of the vote.
The race for NC Lieutenant Governor Republican Dan Forest took the win over Democrat Linda Coleman for Yadkin County with 74.59 percent of the vote. Forest won the state as well with 50.13 percent of the vote.
The NC Commissioner of Agriculture race between Democrat Walter Smith and incumbent Republican Steve Troxler showed Troxler winning with 73.73 percent of the vote, compared to the state with Troxler winning 53.28 percent of the vote.
Democrat Roy Cooper took the NC Attorney General race as the only candidate on the ballot.
In the race between Democrat Beth Wood and Republican Debra Goldman for NC Auditor, Goldman took Yadkin County by a 71.71 percent of the vote. Wood also took the state with 53.69 percent of the vote.
In the race between Democrat Wayne Goodwin and Republican Mike Causey for NC Commissioner of Insurance, Causey took Yadkin County with 71.37 percent of the vote, compared to 51.82 percent of the state voting for Goodwin.
Democrat John Brooks and Republican Cherie Berry battled it out in the race for NC Commissioner of Labor. Berry pulled out on top in Yadkin County with 77.62 percent of the vote and won by 53.30 percent on the state level.
In the race between Democrat Elaine Marshall and Republican Ed Goodwin for NC Secretary of State, Goodwin took Yadkin County with 68.66 percent of the vote, compared to the state with Marshall winning 53.75 percent of the vote.
In the race for North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction Democrat June Atkinson and Republican John Tedesco squared off with Tedesco winning Yadkin County with 68.13 percent of the vote. On the state level Atkinson won with 54.21 percent of the vote.
The NC Treasurer race put Democrat Janet Cowell against Republican Steve Royal. Yadkin County voted in favor of Royal by 67.34 percent. The state showed Cowell winning by 53.79 percent.
Republicans Kevin Austin, David Moxley and Marion Welborn were listed on the ballot in the race for Yadkin County Board of Commissioners. The candidates ran unopposed on the ballot.
Non-partisan races
In the race between Sam Ervin IV and incumbent Paul Newby for the NC Supreme Court Associate Justice, Newby took Yadkin County by 65.68 percenty of the vote. Newby also took the state with 51.90 percent of the vote.
In the race for NC Court of Appeals Judge between incumbent Linda McGee and David Robinson, Yadkin County voted for McGee by 52.21 percent of the vote. McGee was also won the state with 61.16 percent of the vote.
In the race between incumbent Wanda Bryant and Marty McGee for the NC Court of Appeals Judge, Yadkin County voted in favor of McGee with 53.11 percent of the vote. The state voted Bryant with 56.52 percent of the vote.
Chris Dillon squared off against incumbent Cressie Thigpen for the NC Court of Appeals Judge seat. Dillon took Yadkin County with 64.10 percent of the vote. The state also voted in Dillon with 52.75 percent of the vote.
Jeanie Reavis Houston ran unopposed in the race for NC District Court Judge District 23.
Van Hemric ran unopposed in the race for Yadkin County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor.
