On Oct. 26 and 27 National Geographic Kids magazine made an attempt to break two Guinness World Records titles.

Fall Creek Elementary first grader Gabrielle Nelson was one of 3,600 children, ages five to 12, who ran over a mile to help the magazine work towards its goal.

This event was part of the National Geographic Kids Run for the Planet event that partnered with the Marine Corps Marathon Healthy Kids Fun Run at the Pentagon on Oct. 27.

The record National Geographic Kids set out to break was the most people to run 100 meters in 24 hours. The magazine also set out to break the record of the longest chain of shoes by asking that all participants send in their athletic shoes to be tied together for measurement and then recycled into athletic surfaces such as basketball courts and running tracks.

National Geographic Kids already holds five Guiness World Records titles in “longest line of footprints,” “largest collection of plush toys,” “longest chain of shoes,” “most items of clothing collected for recycling” and “most people doing jumpin jacks in 24 hours.:
