Fresh cut trees will be available for purchase at Boonville Flower and Decor.
The Boonville Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting event will take place in downtown Boonville on Dec. 1 at 5 p.m. This will be the town’s first Christmas parade. The event will also feature live carolers, food by the local girl scout troop, fresh cut trees and pictures with Santa.
The town of Boonville prepares for the holiday season by installing lighted angels to the power lines in the downtown area.
Boonville will hold its first ever Christmas parade alongside its annual Christmas tree lighting and holiday festivities this year. The event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 5 p.m.
“Last year we did the annual tree lighting and we took up food for Yadkin Christian Ministries and we just had a huge crowd,” said Mechelle Crissman, the coordinator for the event. “We took suggestions from that and it was suggested several times that we do an evening parade.”
Crissman said that the idea of a parade piqued the town’s interest particularly because of the end of Heritage Days parade that the town used to hold each summer.
Crissman said that the Christmas event will begin with the parade at 5 p.m. The parade line will be led by Rusty Hunter, Boonville Mayor, and Santa Clause riding in a vintage, red convertible. The parade will take off from Woodruff Road and will end at River Road.
Hunter will stop at the intersection of Highway 601 and Highway 67 to light the tree before moving along to the parade stopping point and Santa will take his spot on the porch of Boonville Flower and Décor to listen to children’s Christmas wishes and take pictures.
Crissman said that there has been a lot of response from community members, businesses and churches that want to participate in the parade. Starmount High School will have its marching band, show choir and JROTC in the parade. Several churches plan to feature children’s choirs, Christmas programs or adult choirs on their floats and Boonville Baptist Church will have a live nativity on its float.
Crissman said that she was surprised to hear from Unifi for the parade since she knew they would be participating in Yadkinville’s annual Christmas parade earlier in the day.
“Smitty Williams from Unifi called and he was really excited about doing an evening parade,” Crissman said. “They will have lots of lights on their float and Santa will be riding with them as well.”
A local Girl Scout troop will be in the Boonville Flower and Décor parking lot selling hot dogs and drinks and there will be a fresh tree lot next to the store.
Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for a food drive to benefit Yadkin Christian Ministries and Richmond Hill Baptist Church food pantries. Crissman said that at the end of the night the food is divided equally between the two locations.
Parking for the event will be available at the First Citizens Bank, any of the nearby churches, the empty lot behind Boonville Flower and Décor and along the streets near Boonville Elementary.
“We’re just really excited to have everybody come out and support Yadkin Christian Ministries and Richmond Baptist,” Crissman said. “A lot of people say that our Christmas event is like a Hallmark Christmas card.”

Nov. 30
Yadkinville will get in the holiday spirit with its annual tree lighting ceremony at Yadkinville Community Park at 5 p.m.. The ceremony will include a performance by the Forbush High School Show Choir and refreshments.
Dec. 1
Yadkinville will hold its annual Christmas parade at 10 a.m.
Following the parade, residents can head over to the arts council and take in Christmas Around the Plaza. Santa will be on hand to meet with children and take pictures from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. YARD Gifts will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to allow residents to do some local Christmas shopping.
Allison Oaks and Miss Emmily Antiques will be holding a holiday marketplace and open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Third Branch Café will host live Christmas music and YARD artists will be working in their studios to meet visitors and demonstrate their work from 11:30 a.m. to 1p.m.
Other activities include face painting by Sarah, free ornament making stations and free cookie decorating throughout the arts council yard and classrooms from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Cops Care Program will hold its annual Christmas luncheon event at Yadkinville First Baptist Church at noon.
Dec. 16
The community’s annual presentation of Handel’s Messiah will be held at the Willingham Theater at 3 p.m. The event is free to the public.
