Yadkin County is starting a new water system booster pumping station.

“It will effect approximately 80 customers including large industrial customers such as Lydall,” Church said. “This is a 12 inch county water line that runs from Jonesville to the I-77 and US-421 intersection. The water line is fairly new and a very important piece of infrastructure that has and will continue to promote economic development in Yadkin County.”

Certain areas in the water system impacted by the booster pumping station will experience significant water pressure at those connections. These areas will likely be the areas that already have high water pressure due to their location at lower ground elevations along the water line routes. Pressure exceeding 100 to 120 psi may be reached.

“The benefit of the booster pumping station is to improve system pressure in areas of current low water pressure,” County Manager Aaron Church said. “This is a positive consequence of the project. However, excessive system pressures noted above could create problems such as water hammer and plumbing pipe/fixture leakage.”

Church said that the county would suggest that its customers consider installing pressure reducing valves in their home or business if problems develop.
