Matthews earns gold at Powerade Games

Morgan Matthews, 8-year-old daughter of Jeff and Debra Matthews of Boonville, participated in the North Carolina State Powerade Games on June 23.

Matthews and 120 girls from all over North Carolina competed in gymnastics. Each gymnast earned points on vault bars, beam and floor.

Morgan finished 1st place all around combined score taking home the gold medal and 2nd place on vault taking home the silver medal.

Morgan competed in the level 1 junior division. She has since moved to level 2. Morgan takes gymnastics at Salem Gymnastics in Winston-Salem.
