Yadkin residents honored at SCC graduation
Surry Community College held its 46th graduation ceremony at the Peace Haven Baptist Church in Yadkinville on May 16. Eighty-nine graduated with honors, and 22 are members of Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society. This year 355 students received a two-year associate degree, a one-year diploma, or a certificate. The Virginia State Police has confirmed three fatalities after a 75-vehicle pileup Easter Sunday on Interstate 77 in Fancy Gap. The pileup took place at approximately 1 p.m. Virginia State Police Spokesman Mike Conroy said dense fog was a major factor. He said it appeared as if the initial wreck led to many chain reaction accidents in the pileup.
