BOONVILLE — The Starmount Lady Rams finished up their non-conference schedule with a solid and hard fought 2-0 win over the Lady Eagles of Surry Central March 30 in Boonville.
It was two evenly matched teams with neither team nor their defenses giving in in the first half that ended in a stalemate 0-0.
“We made some changes at the half and moved two players into different positions and we just buckled down and played good soccer tonight,” Said Coach Dale Draughn of his Lady Rams’ performance. “We changed our formation and moved some players around and it worked well for us.”
The Rams got on the board with 20 minutes remaining in the second half when Claire Maske scored off the assist of Diana Flores for a 1-0 lead. The Maske and Flores combination also lead to another goal with 13:32 remaining in the second half and a 2-0 lead.
“This was a great team win for us and one that we needed. I was talking to them about how things had changed from the first of the season to the last few games and I wanted their play and attitude back to that level in which we started the season,” Draughn said. “Our defense did a great job tonight and we stayed at home for the most part and tried to do what we do best.”
The Lady Rams out-shot the Lady Eagles on goal by a count of 16-9 and the Rams GK Courtney Byrd recorded the shutout win in goal with nine saves while the Eagles GK recorded 10.
The win improves the Lady Rams’ overall record to 5-3-0 and their conference record remains at 1-1.
