EAST BEND — Forbush volleyball standout Michaela Allred signed her letter of intent to play with Guilford College last week. Allred caught the attention of Guilford Coach Emily Gann while participating in a volleyball showcase this past winter.
Allred started every game during her four years of playing varsity volleyball at Forbush High School. She played middle hitter her first three years where she won Honorable Mention as a sophomore, and All-Conference as a junior. She switched to outside hitter during her senior year, and won All-Conference. Allred has played club volleyball at Yadkin Valley Volleyball Club, Salem College Junior Olympics, Piedmont Volleyball Club, and Champion Volleyball Club.
Allred has been an active member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club at FHS. She will graduate as a High Honor graduate in early June from Forbush. While at Forbush, Allred served as the chief marshal at last year’s graduation ceremony and was the student representative for Forbush on the Yadkin County Board of Education. She worked as an intern at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center during the summer of 2013 and served as a North Carolina Senate Page for State Sen. Joyce Krawiec during the summer of 2014. Allread also won a Billie Dean Prim Travel Scholarship and will be traveling to China this July to study the Chinese culture.
Guilford College awarded Allred the Nathan Hunt Scholarship and admitted her into the Honors College at Guilford. Less than one percent of the student body at Guilford are admitted into this program. While at Guilford, Allred plans to major in biology and minor in art with the intention of attending dental school. Allred is the daughter of Lori and Lynn Allred of Yadkinville.
