EAST BEND – Forbush golfer Dylan Ray has elected to sign with the Surry Community College Knights for the upcoming 2016-17 golf season. Dylan has chosen to attend SCC in the fall to obtain a degree in welding technology. Dylan has competed at the high school level in golf for the past two years. This year he finished the season in second place in the conference.
Prior to and in conjunction with playing golf, Dylan also has been successful in high school rodeo. He competes in team roping and has been a national qualifier for team roping each year for the past four years. In 2013-14 he placed 19th in the world in Rock Springs, Wyoming as a header. In 2014-15 and 2015-16 he qualified as a heeler. It is rare for a rodeo athlete to qualify as both a header and heeler in succeeding years.
Dylan has also competed at the state level in events such as chute dogging, break-a-way roping, and ribbon roping. Dylan has won numerous awards in the sport of rodeo and will continue to pursue rodeo competition as well as now beginning his golf career at SCC.
