GREENSBORO — Senior Heaven Walters (Starmount) and freshman Miracle Walters (Elkin) recently completed the 2016-2017 season with the Guilford College women’s basketball team.

Heaven, a 5’8 forward, earned Second Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) recognition and was named to the All-ODAC Tournament team. She started in all 28 games and ranked second on the team in points (11.6) and rebounds (6.2) per game. Heaven led the team and ranked fourth in the league with a .522 field-goal percentage. Her 2.2 assists per game stood second on the team

Walters recorded double-doubles in wins over Virginia Wesleyan College (18 points, 12 rebounds) and Shenandoah University (19 points, 11 rebounds). She scored in double figures 19 times, including in the Quakers’ overtime win over Husson University when she hit for a career-high 23 points and nine rebounds. Walters was named to the Guilford College Classic all-tournament team.

The senior appeared in 106 total games, ninth best in Guilford history. The two-year starter and team captain averaged 7.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game in her career. She ranks 17th all-time at Guilford with 195 made free throws and 20th with 451 rebounds. An excellent student, Heaven was named to the 2016-17 NCAA Division III Academic All-District V Women’s Basketball Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. She will graduate in May with degrees in exercise and sport sciences and health sciences.

Miracle, a 5’9 forward, played in all 28 Guilford games as one of the first forwards off the bench. She led the team’s rookie with 3.9 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. Miracle hit for a career-high eight points in Guilford’s Jan. 25 win over league-rival Emory & Henry College. She scored in all but six games this year. Miracle collected a personal-best seven rebounds in a Nov. 28 victory over Meredith College.

Coach Stephanie Flamini’s Quakers finished with a 24-4 overall record, 14-2 in the ODAC. Guilford won its fifth ODAC Tournament title and advanced to the Division III playoffs for the sixth time in school history. The Quakers expect as many as nine letter winners back in 2017-2018, including Miracle Walters.
