The second round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association playoffs is in the books, and several local teams are moving on to the third round while the road has ended for others.
Elkin 3 – South Davidson 0
The Lady Elks took a second round 3-0 win over South Davidson last week in Elkin. Kathryn Jennings scored all three goals for the Elks to earn a hat trick and send the Lady Elks to the third round. Laken Brown, Catie Beth Brown and Corrin Shores all came away with an assist for the Lady Elks. Elkin controlled the majority of possession from kickoff until the final whistle blew. With the win, Elkin moves to 16-7 overall. The Lady Elks will host Bishop McGuinness on Wednesday afternoon in Elkin, kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
Starmount 2 – Highlands 0
The Lady Rams earned a 2-0 win over Highlands after taking a four-hour bus ride up the mountain. Molly Maske scored the first goal for Starmount in the first half, while Maggie Freed scored the final goal in the second half. Claire Maske came away with two assists for the Lady Rams. Starmount will travel to Gray Stone Day School on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
Forbush 6 – Lincolnton 1
Forbush kept up its dominating first round win, with another dominating second round win on Saturday. The Falcons were able to take an early lead and never look back. Forbush scored three goals in the first half, and three goals in the second half to complete the 6-1 win. With the win, Forbush will move on to the third round where it will take on No. 4 Newton Conover on Wednesday.
Starmount 2 – Robbinsville 1
The Lady Rams took a 2-1 second-round win over Robbinsville after a walk off single by Shea Triplett. Robbinsville had a 1-0 lead over the Rams until the bottom of the eighth inning. White doubled on a line drive to center field to tie the game 1-1. With runners on second and third, Triplett walked up to the plate. Triplett saw two pitches then made her move on the third pitch while sitting on a 1-1 count. The ball was able to make its way through the infield before stopping in left field. Stringer scored off of Triplett’s hit to give the Lady Rams a 2-1 win.
With the win, Starmount moves on to the third round where it will face Gray Stone Day on Tuesday afternoon. Results were not available by press deadline.
Draughn 5 – Forbush 4
The third-ranked Lady Falcons softball team took a second round loss on Saturday afternoon to No. 14 Draughn. After a successful beginning to the game, Forbush had a 3-1 lead heading into the seventh inning until Draughn scored three runs on one play to take a 4-3 lead. Forbush tried to put runners on base in the bottom of the inning, but the Falcons came up short. Forbush ends its season with an overall record of 19-3.

Forbush baseball took a 1-0 second round win after Carter Foster hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Forbush will take on No. 9 West Stanly (17-10) in the third round of the 2A playoffs on Tuesday night in East Bend.
