The 2017 Powerade State Games rosters have been released for baseball, softball and soccer. Several local players from Forbush and East Wilkes made the rosters.
The 2017 PSG baseball games will be held at UNC Greensboro, Grimsley High School and the War Memorial Stadium. The tournament starts on June 15 and will run until June 18. Championship games will be held on Sunday.
Local players will be playing for Region 7, which will be coached by Forbush head coach, Jack Moss. Forbush had three players make the roster, while East Wilkes had one player. Blake Winebarger, Peyton Winebarger and Carter Foster will all represent Forbush, and Bryce Vestal will represent East Wilkes.
Region 7 will start things off with a late game on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Region 5. On Friday, Region 7 takes on Region 6 at 1 p.m., and Saturday Region 7 will play Region 1 at 10 a.m. All games are to be played at UNC Greensboro’s baseball stadium.
The 2017 softball games are being held at UNC-Greensboro and Carolyn Allen Park from June 20-21.
Forbush coaches Jeremy Helton and Leslie Long will coach Region 7. Four Forbush players and one East Wilkes player made the roster. Kayleigh Williams, Macey Rycroft, Alexis Collins and Caiti Mickles will represent Forbush, while Lauren Rakes will represent East Wilkes.
Region 7 will start play on June 20 at 9 a.m. on field 5 at Carolyn Allen Park against Region 5. Two hours later, Region 7 will face Region 6 on Field 4 at Carolyn Allen Park. On June 21, Region 7 plays Region 8 at 9 a.m. on Field 4 at Carolyn Allen Park. The championship games will be held at UNC Greensboro on June 21.
The 2017 Soccer Powerade games will be held at UNC Greensboro on June 24 and June 25. Two Forbush players made the boys Midwest roster, Jeremy Shore and Chase Melton. Mount Airy coaches Will Hurley and Holden Hurley will coach the Midwest boy’s team.
June 24 will see the Midwest team play the West team at 2:15 p.m. On June 25, the Midwest will play the Southeast at 9 a.m. the championship games will be held on June 25 starting at 2:30 p.m.
