RONDA — The Starmount Rams volleyball team continued its successful Mountain Valley Athletic Conference winning streak with a 3-0 win over East Wilkes last week in Ronda. The Lady Rams put up three good sets with wins of 25-7, 25-17, and 25-8.
In the first set, Starmount jumped out to an early lead over East Wilkes. Kayla Vanhoy put down a kill from the back side to give Starmount a 3-0 lead. Taylor Wood found two kills in a row for Starmount to stretch Starmount’s lead 5-0.
The Cardinals earned their first point of the night off of an Aubrey Wallis kill from the outside. Wallis’ kill was followed by a tip by Brooke Ward which made the score 6-2. Starmount didn’t let up on its side of the court, as Vanhoy put down two aces for the Rams.
As the first set went on, Starmount was able to hold its ground with kills by Chloe Ford, Callie Trivette and Maggie Freed. On the serving side, Anna Pardue put down two aces which gave the Rams a 25-7 win in the first set.
The Cardinals were able to battle back in the second set to make things interesting, but Starmount was able to hang on to take a 25-17 win. Katie Prevette and Aubri Smithey came up with several kills for the Cardinals.
In the third set, Starmount came out strong once again and took a 25-8 win to sweep the Cardinals 3-0.
With the win, Starmount remains at the top of the MVAC standings.
