KERNERSVILLE — Forbush is set to compete in the Cross Country 2A State Championship at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville this Saturday, thanks to some solid performances in the Midwest Regionals.
The girls placed third overall in the Midwest region, clinching a spot in the state championship this Saturday. Anna Kathyrn Kilby, Caroline Owens, Sarah Hayden, Madisun Shore, Hannah Pearson, Abbi Satter and Monserrat Andrade all are set to hit the course.
The team already has conferenced a lot, winning the Western Piedmont Athletic Conference Championship for the girls, and having five named to the All-Conference team. Kilby finished third out of 126 runners in the regionals, while Owens finished ninth.
While the boys team didn’t qualify for state, there is one runner who could be a favorite to bring home the individual championship. Dakota Mendenhall won the 2A Midwest Regionals by 15 seconds.
“[The team worked hard this year, and they are keeping our program strong,” Stephanie Beuter, the Forbush Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach, said. “We had amazing performances at conference and Regionals, and the kids ran their best times. I am very proud.”
The boys will race at 10 a.m., while the girls will race at 11 a.m.
