Mrs. Novella “Vallie” Hunt Smitherman of East Bend passed away on Oct. 31, 2010.

She was born in Yadkin County on Feb. 28, 1919, to the late Burgess Hunt and Alice Jester Hunt.

She was preceded in death by her husband Willie Smitherman; two brothers, David “Dude” Hunt and Taft Hunt; and five sisters, Neva (Henry) Spillman, Jay (Wilson) Binkley, Lena (Gradis) Hodges, Polly (Early) Speer, and Pearl (R B) Smitherman.

She was employeed at the East Bend Dinette for many years.

She is survived by her three children, Robert “Buck” and wife Claudette Smitherman of Cooleemee, Janet Smitherman of East Bend, Kirby and wife Mae Smitherman of Boonville; four grandchildren, Penny Johnson of East Bend, Marty and wife Angela Smitherman of East Bend, Jason and wife Lydia Smitherman of Claremont, Jody Smitherman of Boonville; seven great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; one brother John Robert and wife Lucille Hunt; a special nephew David and wife Betty Spillman; and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family received friends on Tuesday Nov. 2, 2010, at Huff Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at the Huff Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bobby Choplin officiating. Internment will follow at the East Bend Friends Cemetery in East Bend.
