Three area swimmers racked up the medals over the weekend at the 2011 Powerade State Games of North Carolina, which were held in Winston-Salem. Mikki Nunn (of Pilot Mountain), Palmer Duncan (of Elkin), and Avery Tucker (of Pilot Mountain) each earned several medals during the swimming competition.
Nunn, who competed in the 10 and under age division, took the gold in the 50-meter breaststroke, silver in the 100-meter freestyle, bronze in the 50-meter butterfly, the 100-meter breaststroke, and in the 200-meter individual medley.
Duncan, who competed in the 12 and under age division, took silver in the 100-meter breaststroke and bronze in the 50-meter breaststroke.
Tucker, who also competed in the 10 and under age division, took silver in three events; the 50-meter freestyle, the 50-meter backstroke, and the 100-meter backstroke.
