Candidate filing period opens Friday

The period for candidates to file to run for office in the November 2011 election opens in North Carolina at noon Friday, July 1.

Election filing dates extend from this Friday until noon Friday, July 15. Candidates must file at their respective county’s Board of Elections office.

On the Jonesville Town Council, three commissioners face re-election. The terms of Commissioners Tommy Casstevens, Wayne Moore and Gene Pardue expire this year.

In the towns of Yadkinville and Boonville, three commissioners’ seats are available.

Yadkinville Commissioners Gene Branon, Betty Driver and Tony L. Hall are up for re-election.

The terms of Boonville Commissioners Bill Florence, Bonnie Lasky and Tony Reece also end in 2011.

Voters in East Bend will elect three commissioners and a mayor in November. Mayor Stewart Maples and Commissioners Larry Adams, Albert Davis and Lawrence Todd all face re-election.

The candidate filing fee in each Yadkin County township is $5. Filing is non-partisan.

The Yadkin County Board of Elections Office will be closed Monday, July 4. It will reopen Tuesday, July 5 and maintain hours of 8 a.m. — 5 p.m., Monday — Friday until the candidate filing deadline of noon Friday, July 15.

Voter registration for the 2011 November election ends in North Carolina at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14.
