John Odell Hutchens Jr. of Boonville passed away Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at Select Specialty Care Hospital, a division of Novant Health. He was 65.

Mr. Hutchens was born Oct. 10, 1946, in Forsyth County to the late John Odell and Jessie Sizemore Hutchens Sr. He was a member of East Bend Friends Church and also a member of the American Legion Post of East Bend. Mr. Hutchens served in the United States Army.

Mr. Hutchens is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Miller Hutchens; a son, Jason (Christy) Hutchens; two grandchildren, Makenzie and Andrew Hutchens; a sister, Donna (Kim) Harrison; a brother, Larry (Terry) Hutchens.

The family received friends Tuesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville by the Rev. Bob Choplin. Burial followed at East Bend Friends Church cemetery with full Military Honors by the VFW Post 10346.

The family would like to say a very special thanks to the staff of the Select Specialty Care Hospital for their loving care given to Mr. Hutchens. Flowers will be accepted or memorials made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
