Letter to the Editor
I am responding to the article written by Stephanie Carroll Carson from N.C. News Service entitled, “Women’s Right to Know Act takes effect today” in the Oct. 27, 2011, issue of the Ripple. The article mainly refers to the report recently issued by NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina. This report has accused the Pregnancy Centers of North Carolina of using inaccurate medical information and that we are deliberately misleading women. LifeLine Pregnancy Help Center in Elkin does not fit the picture painted by NARAL.
We absolutely do not manipulate women. All of our advertising clearly states what we do as a pregnancy care center. Our high standards of free service and care remain the same regardless of race, religion, or non-religious affiliation. It is our goal to accurately educate and inform women on all of their options. All materials distributed are medically accurate and referenced.
For the past two years we have been in the process of becoming a medical clinic to offer limited ultrasound only for the purpose of dating and confirming pregnancy for qualifying clients. Our target date is January 2012 to begin offering this service. Our limited medical services are under the direction of our volunteer Medical Director, Mark D. Heiner, MD, FACOG. We employ a licensed RN who is our Nurse Manager. We also have a volunteer who is a RDMS certified in OB/GYN sonography.
LifeLine Pregnancy Help Center has served the women of Surry, Wilkes and Yadkin counties for the past 14 years. Our number one source of referrals is by word of mouth. As a faith based non-profit organization we offer a number of different support services which can be found on our website, www.caring-helps.org.
I personally know how many centers in our state operate. They operate according to the same high standards we do. I invite you to give me a call for a tour of LPHC to be further enlightened on how we are serving Elkin and surrounding communities with excellence.
