On Dec. 4, 2011, Susan Lucas Kearney of Hamptonville lost her battle with cancer and died quietly in her sleep.
She was born May 7, 1955, in Mullins, W.Va., to Giles Clifford and Myrlte Short Lucas who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Gary W. Kearney; one son, Gary W. “GW” Kearney II; one daughter, Sarah E. Kearney; one granddaughter, Edith “Edie” Mae Wensil; brothers and sisters, John Clifford (Wanda) Lucas Sr. of Glen Rogers,W.Va., Sarah Ann (Billy J.) Philyaw of Boonville, Rosalie (Eddie) Cook of Boonville, James Robert (Eva) Lucas of Ravencliff, W.Va, Thomas Kelly (Brenda) Lucas of Boonville, Anne Davis (Kevin) Stewart of Salisbury, Kimberly Lucas (JB) Hatfield of Mann, W.Va., John Clifford (Nancy) Lucas of Boonville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her memorial service will be conducted 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at the Gentry Famly Chapel by Rev. Kenny Pardue. The family will receive friends following the service at Gentry Family Funeral Service on Highway 601 North of Yadkinville. Graveside Rites will be performed by the Local Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, in the Ravencliff Church of God of Prophecy in West Virginia. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in West Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Susan’s name be made to either the Masonic Home for Children, Whitestone Masonic and Eastern Star Home, Shriners Hospital, Mended Little Hearts (Local Chapter Tin Man Club), St. Judes Children’s research Hospital or to a charity of the Donors Choice.
