Mrs. Maxine Bryant Allen of Dusty Road, Boonville, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was 79.


She was born May 7, 1932, in Yadkin County to the late Charles W. and Lela Miller Bryant.


Mrs. Allen was a faithful member of Mitchells Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker to her family. She enjoyed working in her garden, cooking, and baking her famous coconut cakes for her family, church, and friends.


In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Lois B. Vestal; and by two brothers, Kenneth W. Bryant and Hubert Bryant; and a special nephew, Ray Bryant.


Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Junis Allen of the home; daughter, Pamela A. (Fred) Shoemaker of Pfafftown; a son, Edward (Sherry) Allen of Boonville; grandchildren, Heather Shoemaker, Joshua Shoemaker, Dusty Allen, Kala Allen; great-granddaughters, Scarlett Shoemaker, Brooke Allen; sister, Mary B. (the late Hugh) Goforth; and brothers, Lester (Norma Jean) Bryant, William (the late Nell) Bryant; and several special nieces and nephews, including George Vestal, Gerald Goforth, and Lloyd Bryant.


The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Her funeral service was 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at Mitchells Chapel United Methodist Church by Rev. Charles Turner. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
