Joe Brown, Yadkin County native, held a news conference Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at West Yadkin School in Hamptonville to launch his latest book (book #22), entitled “WEST YADKIN 3-Teachers and More.” This book is a follow up of “WEST YADKIN 1 and WEST YADKIN 2” and continues the history and memories of many of the graduates of the 32-year history of West Yadkin High School. This book gives special emphasis to many of the 165 dedicated teachers who taught at the historic old school.
West Yadkin School was built in 1935 and opened up on Oct. 9, 1935, operating both as a high school and an elementary school until consolidation in 1967. The school continues as an elementary school.
This book has over 175 pictures of teachers, students, sporting events, community landmarks and newspaper coverage of the school over the years. It became necessary to continue the West Yadkin story with this third book due to the information received and the growing interest of the West Yadkin family in their school. It has been a fun year since the release of WEST YADKIN 1 back on Feb. 8, 2011. Please note that all three WEST YADKIN books cover the full 32-year period of the high school. None of the books limit their coverage to just certain periods of the school.
Brown is a 1959 graduate of West Yadkin High School. All of his books are on sale at West Yadkin School and at Diana’s Bookstore in Elkin.
