Filing begins for elections

Filing for the elected offices began Feb. 13 at noon in the offices of the Yadkin County Board of Elections.

The seats that are eligible for election are 31st state senate district, 73rd state house district, three county commissioner seats and four school board seats.

At time of publication incumbents Kevin Austin, David Moxley and Marion Welborn had filed for county commissioner seats. Jennifer Spaulding Hemric and incumbents Rex ‘Buck’ Baity and Larry Worth had filed for the board of education seats.

The filing fees for state seats are $207, county commissioner fees are$18 and school board fees are $5. Filing fees that are $50 or more must be paid by check and made payable to the Yadkin County Board of Elections.

The filing dates will continue through Wednesday, Feb. 29. Those who are interested in filing may do so at the elections offices located in room 103 of the first floor of the courthouse between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. now through Feb. 28 and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Feb. 29.

The 2012 primary election will take place on May 8 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Voters can register to vote, change their party affiliation or change their address until April 13. Registration and changes can be made online by going to www.ncsbe.gov and selecting the voter registration tab or by going to the Board of Elections office Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
