Boonville residents are now able to return to a popular shopping destination. Dollar General held its official grand opening on March 10.
Shoppers were able to take advantage of special sale prices and door prizes at the grand opening event Saturday. The first 50 shoppers through the door received $10 Dollar General gift cards and the first 200 shoppers received a Dollar General tote bag.
A fire forced the store to close its doors on July 9, 2011. The cause of the fire was never determined.
The store reopened at 120 West Main Street, which is the same location as before the rebuild.
Emily Weiss, public relations manager for Dollar General, says that along with a new building the store received a new layout that will making shopping simpler for shoppers.
The new layout features seasonal products in the center of the store, more visible signage for the location of items in the store and coolers for items that need refrigeration located at the front of the store.
Weiss says that workers that were displaced by the fire were allowed to go work at other nearby stores. The new location will maintain six to 10 employees depending on need. This is standard practice for the chain. This location is still taking applications to fill open positions and those interested in applying can go to www.dollargeneral.com and choose the career center link.
Despite the string of Dollar General fires in Yadkin County Weiss says that the chain is not making any changes to the buildings as they are rebuilt.
“There is no evidence that the incidents were linked or that there was a safety issue,” Weiss said.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
Dollar General continues to thrive in the area however with all of the locations that have fallen victim to fires now reopen and a new location set to open this summer in Hamptonville.
“Dollar General offers a unique shopping option that is different from other retailers,” Weiss said. “Dollar General stores are designed to meet the needs of customers who are price conscious and who have little time. Our stores are small, easy to shop and conveniently located so customers don’t have to drive far to shop.”
