Prescription fraud arrest made

Yadkinville. Detective Sergeant F. G. Jester received a tip from a physician’s office in Statesville that an individual was calling local pharmacies impersonating staff and having prescription’s filled.

Thursday, Jester located the individual in Hamptonville residing at 3029 Friendly Road.

A search through the NCIC database produced results that Leigh Huffstetler Plecas, a/k/a Kelly Huffstetler, a/k/a Leigh Kelly, a/k/a Leaigh Plecas, 40, had an outstanding warrant from the North Carolina Department of Corrections originating in Rowan County. .

Plecas was initially charged with probation violations and placed under a $50,000 bond.

She was arrested on Jan. 15 and charged with 20 counts relating to the forgery and fraudulent obtaining of over 700 dosage units of controlled substance medications over a period of several weeks.

Plecas was also charged with 13 counts of Trafficking Opium and seven counts of Obtaining Controlled Substances by Fraud/Forgery.

Additional charges may be pending.

Records provide she had prior arrests for drug offense. Plecas was scheduled to appear on Jan. 21 in Yadkin County District Criminal Court.
