Looking for a new read? The library will be hosting a spring book sale from April 16-30, 2012. Books in this sale will be a combination of old and new. Come early for the best selections. All proceeds will go towards the purchase of books for the library.
We are looking for donation of prizes for the “Poker Run for Readers” fundraiser in June. Prizes, such as gift certificates for free services, plants, housewares, t-shirts, caps, artwork, baked goods, etc. will be raffled during the evening events. Any donations are greatly appreciated! We are also in need of volunteers who would be interested in helping at the event. STORYTIME for preschoolers will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 10:00 am. STORYTIME is an early literacy program specifically geared for preschoolers 2-5 years old. The theme for this week’s program will be “Turtle Time” featuring the letter “T” and highlighting the literacy skill, narrative skills. All STORYTIME programs are free and open to the public. Make plans now to bring your child or grandchild for a fun and entertaining educational experience, with stories, music and crafts as we help get our kids “Ready to Read” with the “Every Child Ready to Read @ your Library” program.
The Northwestern Regional Library system is holding a “Poker Run for Readers” on Saturday, June 9th, 2012. This event is open for cars and motorcycles. Check-in is at 8:30 am, with the first out at 10:30 am. The poker run will start and end at Freeborne’s Eatery & Lodge in Laurel Springs, the host sponsor for this event. Cookout and live music by “5 Play” will begin at 5:30 pm. Pre-registration deadline is May 19, 2012 with forms available at any of the public libraries in Alleghany, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties. For more information, call (336) 675-0753.
2012-2013 Battle of the Books lists are being assessed and labeled. Additional titles that are not currently owned by the Yadkin County Public Library will be purchased so that all titles will be available. If you are interested in learning what books are on the list for next school year, please visit the North Carolina School Library Media Association’s website, www.ncslma.org.
Looking for a way to help your local library? The Yadkin County Public Library is recycling aluminum cans. All proceeds from aluminum cans goes towards the purchase of library books. A trailer is located in the back parking lot, for your convenience.
The library will be closed on Friday, April 27, 2012 for Staff Development. The library will reopen on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 8:30 am. The Yadkin County Public Library is a member of the Northwestern Regional Library system, comprised of libraries in Alleghany, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties. The library’s normal operating hours are as follows: Mondays and Thursdays 8:30 am – 6:30 pm and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 am – 5:30 pm.
