Are you a veteran and looking for educational assistance? The library will be hosting an “Educational Opportunities for Veterans” class on Wednesday, June 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. This class is provided by the Educational Opportunity Center. The Yadkin County Public Library will be having a Summer Photography Contest themed around this year’s teen theme, “Own the Night”. Contest is open to all registered patrons of the member libraries of the Northwestern Regional Library system. There is no fee to enter and patrons can enter up to 2 photos. All submitted images must be no larger than 16” x 20”, including mat and frame. Entries must be received from June 11 to June 22, 2012 at the Yadkin County Public Library. Patricia Rogers will continue to host the genealogy workshop on Ancestry.com Library Edition at the Yadkin County Public Library. This workshop is held from 10:00 am – 11:00 am on Tuesday mornings. Patricia’s workshop will focus on using Ancestry.com Library Edition and assisting with genealogy questions and issues. If you are interested in learning how to research your family history or need help in using Ancestry.com, come learn what all Ancestry.com Library Edition has to offer. This workshop is free and open to the public.
The library has a Facebook page! Just log onto your Facebook and find the Yadkin County Public Library page. Click on “Like” on the upper right corner of the page and start receiving library posts about upcoming events, photos and updates right on your page. It’s a great way to stay up to date on what is going on at your local library. Don’t have a facebook account? You can still be “in the know”. The library has started a monthly newsletter and would like email addresses of patrons who are interested in getting the latest library news. As always, your information will not be shared with anyone. Stop by the library and give us your email address and you can start receiving your newsletter too.
October 12, 2012 is the deadline for registering to vote for the General Election in November. If you have not registered to vote or need to update your information, revised voter registration forms are now available at the library. All completed forms can be mailed or returned to the Board of Elections office.
The Yadkin County Public Library is a member of the Northwestern Regional Library system, comprised of libraries in Alleghany, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties. The library’s normal operating hours are as follows: Mondays and Thursdays 8:30 am – 6:30 pm and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 am – 5:30 pm.
