YADKINVILLE - After a hot start to the season, the Yadkin Stingrays were cooled off last week in two away meets.

The Stingrays dropped a 454-276 meet to Glenridge on Tuesday before losing to Long Creek 607-215 Thursday. With the losses, Yadkin fell to 2-3 on the season.

The Stingrays captured 21 first-place finishes in the first meet, led by 13-year-old Sierra Winters’ four gold medals.

Winters finished first in the 100 meter individual medley, 50 meter breaststroke, 50 meter backstroke and 50 meter butterfly. Gina Myers, 12, added three third-place finishes (100 meter individual medley, 50 meter freestyle and 50 meter butterfly).

Six other swimmers - Suzie Beamguard, Austin Doub, Hunter Kepley, Hope Medwin, Jayla Murrill and Bryan Winters - captured multiple gold medals.

Beamguard finished first in the 10 & under 25 meter breaststroke and 25 meter backstroke, while Doub won the 18 & under 50 meter freestyle and 50 meter backstroke. Kepley captured gold in the 12 & under 50 meter backstroke and 50 meter butterfly, with Medwin finishing first in the 10 and under 100 meter individual medley and 25 meter butterfly.

Murrill captured gold in both six and under 25 meter freestyle heats, while Bryan Winters finished first in the 18 & under 100 meter individual medley and 50 meter butterfly.

Luke Grotberg and Michael Stewart rounded off the first-place finishes with gold medals in the eight and under 25 meter breaststroke and 14 & under 50 meter butterfly, respectively.

Sophia Barron added three silver medals in the 18 and under 50 meter freestyle, 50 meter backstroke and 50 meter breaststroke. Lilly Fowler and Sarah Hadyen swam to four top-3 finishes each.

In the second meet, the Stingrays only managed 13 first-place finished, led once again by Sierra Winters, who captured gold in all four events.

Doub, Medwin and Murrill finished first in two heats, while Beamguard, Myers and Ian Medwin swam to first-place finishes in one event.

Beamguard added three more top-3 finishes, while Addie Hayden swam to bronze medals in the eight and under 25 meter freestyle and 25 meter backstroke.

Yadkin is off this week, but returns to the pool with two home meets next week. The Stingrays take on Chadwyck Tuesday and Kernersville on Thursday at the Yadkin Family YMCA.
