RONDA - Starmount overcame nine penalties and a solid East Wilkes defense Friday night to win their second Mountain Valley Conference of the year, 26-3.
The Rams were flagged for four holding, blocking in the back and illegal procedures calls in the game, but two Chaston Martin touchdown runs powered Starmount to its 35th-straight conference win.
On their first offensive play from scrimmage, a 66 yard Martin touchdown run was called back on a holding call, setting the tone for the game as the Rams struggled to find their rhythm.
Martin was held under the century mark for the first time on the season, rushing for 73 yards on 14 carries and two scores. Sergio Sarinara (29 yards), Hunter Myers (27), Simpson (27) and Samuel Stone (26) all added 20 yards on the ground.
Quarterback Trey Money fired a 28-yard touchdown strike to Brady Lamm to round out the scoring.
Craig Alley tacked on a late field goal for East Wilkes.
Starmount hosts Ashe County next Friday in Week Five, while the Cardinals travel to West Wilkes.
