Yadkin County will have a new stop for gas and food early next year.
Sheetz will open a gas station and convenience store serving made-to-order food at the previous location of the State Street Steak House. The store will be located on Highway 601 at the intersection with Highwy 421 in Yadkinville.
According to Steve Augustine, director of real estate for Sheetz, the projected start date for construction is Oct. 22. He says that the projected open date is March 28 with weather conditions pending.
Sheetz is becoming a fast growing and popular gas station, restaurant and convenience store in the foothills area. The store offers made-to-order food that customers can order from the station pump or in the store. Diners have the option to carry food out or have their meals in the station’s indoor or outdoor seating. Sheetz also offers an array of convenience items such as snack foods, candies, beverages, tobacco products, alcohol and various car and toiletry needs.
Augustine said that Sheetz has been working on the property for a couple of years and signed an agreement with the property owner about a year ago. He said that it took the past year to get everything handled with the state and the town.
Augustine said that the Yadkinville store will be very similar to the other North Carolina stores. The store will be 6,407 square feet and will be located on the existing 1.82 acres that State Street Steak House currently sits on.
Augustine said that the store will have six gasoline dispensers that will allow 12 cars to fill at one time. There will be 50 parking spaces.
“It seems like a lot of parking but we are more and more focusing on establishing ourselves as a restaurant as opposed to a convenience store,” Augustine said.
Augustine said that there will be over 30 seats for customers inside the station and eight outdoor tables that will be able to seat four people at each table.
“The architecture will be very similar to the stores in Dobson, Mount Airy and King,” Augustine said.
State Street Steak House has closed its doors and auctioned off its items on Sept. 24.
