Lewisville woman killed in Boonville wreck
A fatal car crash claimed the life of a 20-year-old Lewisville woman on Sept. 30.
According to a press release, Desiree Clarese Jones was driving through downtown Boonville in the 200 block of Main Street near Boonville Elementary School when her 2003 Chevrolet Trail Blazer SUV left the road at a high rate of speed and collided with a tree. It is believed that Jones was killed on impact.
“It appears she lost control in a curve just pass Galaxy Grocery,” said Boonville Police Chief G.L. Gibson. “She then slid around and lost control while over correcting.”
Gibson said that officers estimate that Jones was traveling at about 80 miles per hour and was going 70 miles per hour at time of impact with the tree. It took rescue workers three hours to free Jones from the wreckage.
Gibson said the Boonville Police Department did not have reason to believe that alcohol was involved in the wreck. Gibson said that no alcohol containers were found in the vehicle and there was not a smell of alcohol within the car.
Gibson said that in wrecks like this it is a general rule for the department to request a toxicology report if an autopsy is performed. Gibson said that an autopsy will be performed and he’s not sure when the toxicology results will come back.
It is unclear what Jones was doing in the Boonville area. According to Gibson her family does not know why she would be in the area and she has no connections to anyone in the area as far as authorities can tell.
The tree that Jones’ vehicle collided with was on the property of a Boonville resident.
“There’s a little bit of landscaping damage,” Gibson said. “A passerby saw the wreckage and ran up to the resident’s door to ask them to call 911. It was less than one minute before an officer arrived.”
Gibson said that Boonville Fire Department, Yadkin County Rescue Services, Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office, Boonville Police Department and Doc’s Towing in Yadkinville were all integral parts in the efforts to save Jones and clean up the wreckage.
