ELKIN - The North Carolina High School Athletic Association released the 2012 soccer state playoff brackets Monday morning.

Three local teams were rewarded with berths into their respective divisions.

Elkin, who finished the season at 12-6 overall and 10-4 in the Mountain Valley Conference, captured the 1A championship from the conference.

The Elks earned a first-round bye and will await the winner of the West Wilkes/Avery wild-card matchup. Elkin will host the winner in the second-round meeting at Grissom Stadium later this week.

Forbush, who finished second in the MVAC behind Ashe County at 16-1-2 and 12-1-1 in conference play, will open at home against Randleman on the 2A side.

The Tigers finished the season at 6-11-2 on the year and 6-2 in the Pac-6 Conference.

Finally, Starmount will open on the road at West Davidson in Lexington in 2A postseason action.

The Rams finished the year as the No. 3 2A squad at 9-7-2 and 7-7 in conference play and will take on a tough Dragons team that finished second in the Central Carolina Conference at 11-4-3 and 7-3.

Start times for first-round games have yet to be determined.
