EAST BEND - Forbush freshman Isaac McMillan continues to rack up the off-season wrestling accolades.
A month after winning a gold medal at the North Carolina Junior High State Championships, McMillan captured an individual title at the North Carolina Amateur Athletic Union State Tournament March 9 at the Cabarrus Arena & Events Center in Concord.
Competing in the Cadet 152-pound bracket, McMillan breezed into the finals, winning his first two matches comfortably. After pinning Saint Wrestling Club’s Jesse Houston in just 1:27, the freshman battled past Mat Maniacs’ Cameron Isenhour 11-8 to advance to the finals.
In the championship bout, McMillan blanked Asheboro’s Sam Wilson 4-0 to capture the title.
McMillan post a 24-17 overall record on Forbush’s varsity wrestling team this past season, including winning one of three matches at the 2A Midwest Regional last month.
Isaac is the son of Daniel and Crystal McMillan of East Bend.
