The much anticipated Starmount at Forbush baseball/softball doubleheader, scheduled for Tuesday night, has been rained out.

Fans now will have a chance to catch both games since they are being rescheduled for different nights later this week.

The baseball clash will be played Thursday, beginning with the JV game at 4:30 p.m. The softball contest will be played Friday, beginning with the JV game at 4:30 p.m.

Both games loom large in the Mountain Valley 2A Conference standings.

Starmount sits on top of the MVAC baseball heap right now, tied with Wilkes Central at 6-1 but holding the tiebreaker edge based on its head-to-head victory April 2. But Forbush lurks a game back at 5-2, already holding one victory over the Rams.

In softball, both Forbush (5-0) and Starmount (4-0) remain perfect against MVAC foes. The Falcons (9-1 overall) haven't lost a conference game since the current MVAC alignment took effect in 2005-06. Starmount is 11-0 overall, off to its best softball start in school history.

Forbush won the soccer meeting with its county rival Monday night, 7-0. Leticia Patino and Jessica Baity both scored two goals in the first nine minutes to pace the Falcons, who improved to 10-2-1 overall, 6-0 MVAC.

NOTE: Starmount's non-conference baseball game against Elkin, set for Wednesday night, is still on. But it's not clear yet where the contest will be played since the Buckin' Elks home field was pretty swampy as of early Tuesday afternoon.
