He was born Dec. 10, 1918 in Yadkin County to the late Walter and Effie West.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Velma West.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Carol West of the home; son, James (Linda) West Jr. of Iowa; step children, Kimberly (Frank) Sicola, Scott Clark, and Donald (Carolyn) Colby; step grandchildren, Mary, Patricia, William, Chris, Shane, Patty, Kaylan, and Chris.
His funeral service was held Wednesday, June 10 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville.
Burial followed at Center United Methodist Church Cemetery will full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post No.10346.
The family received friends Wednesday, June 10 prior to the service at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
