YADKINVILLE — The Yadkin Stingrays overcame a 10-point deficit in the final two events to edge Greenbriar in a conference dual meet last Thursday night.

Sierra Winters, Sean Evans, Bryan Winters and Julianna Prim each won four events to help the Stingrays prevail 399-389.

All four swimmers touched first in their individual medley, backstroke and butterfly races. Evans won the freestyle, while Sierra Winters, Bryan Winters and Prim aced the breaststroke.

Sierra Winters and Sean Evans compete in the 10-and-under age group, while Bryan Winters swims with the 14-and-under boys and Prim with the 18-and-under girls.

The meet proved a see-saw affair all night. The Stingrays fell behind by 10 points after finishing second in four-straight medley relay races toward the end — losing ground by four points with each defeat. But the ‘Rays rallied by beating Greenbriar in the final three relays of the night in the 14-and-under boys, 18-and-under girls and 18-and-under boys divisions.

Lyncee Kowalcik, Hannah Cesare, Prim and Kimberly Benton comprised the 18-and-under girls medley relay team which took an important blue ribbon. Micah West, Hunter Carter, Jay Lomax and Adam Wise followed with a win in the 18-and-under boys relay.

Other individual winners for Yadkin on Thursday night included Tessa Cesare (10-and-under girls), Grace Cesare (12-and-under girls), Noah Medwin (12-and-under boys), Sarah Cesare (18-and-under girls), Brian Norman (18-and-under boys), Micah West (18-and-under boys) and Hunter Carter (18-and-under boys).

Yadkin had its final regular season meet Tuesday night at Chadwyck (results not available by press time). The Stingrays will swim in the conference championships this weekend at the Gateway YMCA in Winston-Salem. The 11-and-older swimmers will compete Friday night, while the 10-and-under swimmers will race Saturday morning.

Coaches believe, with a larger roster than in recent years, Yadkin should be able to contend for several conference honors — possibly a top-four team finish.
