Starmount senior pitcher Tyler Jackson earned a spot on the 2009 all-state team, as compiled by the N.C. Baseball Coaches Association.

Jackson was the only one from the Mountain Valley 2A Conference to make the 2A squad, which features 24 players. McMichael’s Joseph Hughes was voted 2A Player of the Year.

Jackson earned conference MVP honors for the second year in a row. The Appalachian State University signee had a 0.88 ERA as a high school senior. He allowed just 30 hits and seven earned runs in 56 innings pitched this past season. Opponents batted .150 against him.

Mount Airy’s Christian Easter and West Wilkes’ Josh Zumbrook made the 1A all-state team. Ryne Poplin of South Stanly was the 1A Player of the Year.
