She was born June 14, 1951 in Yadkin County to the late J.C. and Edna Marie Goad Hutchens.
Mrs. Speer was retired from Unifi with over 27 years of service.
She was of the Baptist faith and had been a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in her childhood.
She was a loving wife, mother, and “Nanny” to her family and enjoyed taking care of each of them.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Terry Speer and a brother, Wayne Hutchens.
Surviving are her devoted husband, Tommy Lee Speer of the home; sons, Brent (Lisa) Speer of Boonville and Kent (Paula) Speer of East Bend; daughter, Leandra Speer (Mickey) Burcham of Yadkinville; sister-in-law, Mia Steelman and her children, Megan and Hunter Hutchens; six grandchildren, Brittany Speer, Miranda Speer, Andrew Speer, Kimberly Speer, Kailey Burcham and Reese Burcham; brothers, Tommy (Deany) Hutchens of Yadkinville and Donny “Bunk” (Pam) Hutchens of Yadkinville; sisters, Faye (Sam) Petro of Winston-Salem and Lynn (Henry) Reaves of Conway, S.C.; and several very special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
Her funeral service will follow the visitation at 4 p.m. in the Gentry Family Chapel by the Rev. Paul Wyatt and the Rev. Ricky Burcham.
Burial will follow in Solid Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.
