Communities Thrive at Your Library: Celebrate National Library Week will be remembered at the Yadkin County Public Library, April 11-17.

This week, schools, campuses and communities across the country celebrate National Library Week, a time to remind the public about the contribution libraries, librarians and library workers make to their communities every day.

In today’s tough economy, libraries offer free resources to help people find jobs and learn new skills.  People of all ages and backgrounds find entertainment, develop skills and come to find their place in the community.  People gather for storytime with their children, to find homework help, or to volunteer.

How can the library help you thrive?  National Library Week is the perfect time to find out. Stop by your local library and find out.

In celebration of National Library Week, local musicians John Hutchens and Larry Wishon will be at the Yadkin County Public Library from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, entertaining you with a variety of music. Bring your lunch and kick back for an hour. Water and dessert will be provided.

In an effort to reduce printing costs and to encourage electronic filing, the N.C. Department of Revenue will no longer be providing state tax forms to public facilities, such as libraries and post offices. Taxpayers can order forms by mail by calling the Department of Revenue’s toll-free number or through their website and completing a request form, or by downloading them directly from their website.

For your convenience, the library has printed and will be providing copies of the NC state tax form as well as the tax rate schedule at the cost of $.15 cents per page.  Computers are available to use at no cost with a valid library card.  You may also visit one of the taxpayer service centers for forms and additional services or you can contact the N.C. Department of Revenue toll-free at 1-877-252-3052 or by visiting their website at www.dor.state.nc.us.  Federal tax forms are in and are available at the library.  Forms are located in our back hallway, near the rear entrance.

Do you need a census form or need help completing a census form?  The U.S. Census Bureau will have a representative at the library to assist with Census forms.  Ron Honeycutt will be here from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon until April 19, 2010.

As a reminder, all census forms must be completed and returned by May 1, 2010.  Additional census forms are available at the library in Spanish as well as several other languages.  If you have questions, need assistance with completing the Census, or need a Census form, please stop by the library and see the Census representative or call the U.S. Census Bureau at 1-866-872-6868.
