The Yadkin County woman murdered last week died after her throat was slashed during a domestic dispute, according to law enforcement officials.

Dennis Dwight Hodges, 58, of 2220 Governor’s Lane, was arrested on April 6 immediately after the incident and charged with first degree murder in the death of his wife, Debbie Sue Gregory Bobbitt Hodges, 45, of the same address.

He was being held in the Yadkin County Jail after being denied bail during his first court hearing to answer to the charges on April 7. Hodges, who records indicated he served in the military, has since been moved to Raleigh.

“We moved Hodges to Central Prison in Raleigh for safekeeping,” said Yadkin County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Danny Widener. “He had medical problems that we are not equipped to handle in our facility.”

According to arraignment papers, he is unemployed and making payments of $545 on his home. It also lists expenses of $300 a month for food, $100 a month for utilities and $400 car payment installments for a total monthly budget of $1,345.

Hodges has a 1998 Toyota pickup truck, court papers showed, and his total assets are at $68,800 with liabilities at $101,000.

Tom A. Fagerli of Yadkinville was picked as his court-appointed attorney. He declined to comment about the case and his client on Monday.
